An event date can take its start time from a place's opening time and its end time from the place's closing time. A channel setting can also keep manually entered event times inside each place's opening hours.
Use opening and closing times
Each date on an event has two switches: Use place opening time and Use place closing time. They work independently, so you can switch on one, both, or neither.
When a switch is on, the time picker for that time is hidden, and the date summary shows "Opening time" or "Closing time" in place of a clock time. Adding another date copies the switches from the first date.
The time resolves separately for each assigned place and each day, using that place's opening hours for that day. The event follows later changes to the place's opening hours.
If a place is closed on that day, the event does not show for that place on that day.
If a place has no opening hours set, the event keeps the times saved on the date.
Keep events within opening hours
The channel setting Keep events within opening hours is on the channel's Details page. When it is on, manually entered event times adjust to each place's opening hours, and events that fall completely outside those hours are hidden.
The setting applies to a place only when every channel that serves the place has it on. It is off for new channels.
End before start
An event date cannot end before it starts. The editor and the API reject the save with "Event end date and time must not be before its start". For an overnight event, set the end to the next day, for example a 20:00 start with a 02:00 end on the following date. The editor does not assume a rollover for you.
Dates that use the opening or closing time switch skip this check in the editor, because the place decides the time.
